Adendorf Castle Country Fair - Landpartie Adendorf 2014

It always feels special when we pay a visit to the so-called “Landpartie” (“country outing”), a yearly four-day event, where about one hundred exhibitors show off their artistic works and foods from around the country to about twenty thousand visitors. This incredible event takes place at the Adendorf Castle, a mere half-hour-drive from where we live.

The Adendorf Castle is a beautiful moated castle that was constructed between 1655 and 1670. It has been owned by the von Loë family since 1829. The current owners, Georg Baron von Loë and his wife Gabriela Baroness von  Loë, are the sixth generation of this aristocratic family to live in the castle and for the last twelve years have graciously agreed to welcome thousands of people to their “home” to enjoy a bit of the “castle life” for a few days.

Rather beautiful wells on display on the castle grounds.

More amazing wells. Loved the flowery decorations. So elegant.

Seriously enarmored with the wares of this vendor from Spain. And the display table.

Busy bee. And sage flowers.

Another busy bee. And a Valencia scented rose in a very pretty shade of apricot.

Two horse head sculptures on display.

One more busy bee. And a foxglove.

Chutney tasting.

The lion and the sage.

This vendor sold spice boxes that included recipe and descriptions of the dishes, such as these for Tandoori Chicken or Bangkok Chicken Salad - a nice gift idea for a foodie friend.

Rustic bowls, vases and linen table runners all meant for outdoor dining and decoration -  in one of the prettiest shades of green I have seen in a long time.

And then there were some more vases and roosters in an awesome shade of turquoise.

Oh, those handsome knee high leather boots.

My favorite canvas bag "Keep calm and carry on".....

...or wear a bag with this catchy design. The vendor displayed them by hanging them up on a huge tree.

The bridge leading to the castle.

Hanging baskets with tons of flowers in the castle courtyard.

Baskets brimming with pink hydrangeas.

Marvellous flower art.

This rather talented guy dressed in blue seemed to be shopping as well. He was born in the City of Bonn on December 16th, 1770.

Wonder why these caught my attention.

The owners of the castle have an incredible collection of vintage cars - this burgundy-colored one was parked in a rather pretty spot.

Three lovely visitors from the Venetian carnival, wearing their traditional colorful costumes attracted much attention.

Vintage linens and crooks full of beautiful country-style flowers.

Vintage prop heaven. All displayed under a cherry tree.

Aceto balsamico and artisanal olive oil, ready for the tasting.

Peace and quiet.

Fictile birds on a branch. More peace and quiet.

In case you were unsure about your destination. Or were simply lost.

More amazing wells. Wish I had one in our garden.

Vintage garden tools. And twine. And gargoyles. All displayed on a plaid tablecloth. The little yellow sign read "Vorsicht scharf" - "watch out, sharp tools".

Very pretty shopping bags to carry home your loot of the day.

  3. Quite a nice event, the castle grounds are so beautiful with quite lovely gardens. I cannot pick a favorite photo Andrea, only to say they are all so well captured, and, my change purse would definitely be empty after scanning those goods, from the gorgeous boots, to the pottery and table wares, specialty food items. Nice experience.

  5. Be still my heart. I would have gone each of the four days and I can bet you I would have seen different things each time. This was an amazing post, Andrea, with wonderful pictures. I hope you bought yourself a few late-birthday presents that we will see popping up in your pictures in the coming months. I liked your pictures of the antique wells the best.

    1. Mary, I am always tempted to visit for two days but, alas, we only visit for one day and take in as much of the wonderful things to see there as possible. I think my darling family would roll their eyes if I wanted to go twice and take more pictures and ponder even longer what I could buy as props...Thank you for your kind comment - next time I go, I will simply take you along and we will spend a few days there. That sounds like a plan.

    1. Beth, if you get a chance to visit one day, you should - there are so many festivities that take place in and around castles here that it is sometimes hard to choose which one to visit - but this one country fair still stands out as being very special.
